“We need to bring civilizational rules into the digital space”

José Tribolet, founder and Emeritus Professor at DEI, took part in an interview with Rádio Observador about the risks and challenges associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

The Professor considers warnings about the potential risks of AI to be justified and advocates a systemic approach to its governance.

According to José Tribolet, it is necessary to establish rules, oversight mechanisms, and accountability for agents operating in the digital space.

He also stresses that this governance should involve manufacturers, governments, legal institutions, and other stakeholders in the digital ecosystem.

In his view, it is essential to bring into the digital space the rules and governance mechanisms that enable society to organise coexistence in the physical world.
