Inside DEI

In this Inside DEI, we will get to know our colleague Lucília Abreu a little better.
- Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at IST.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Lucília Abreu. I am (almost) 51 years old, live in a common-law partnership, have two children, and have been working at Instituto Superior Técnico since January 2, 2001. My career at IST has always been within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, having started in the POSI – Pós Graduação Profissional, then in the Library, and finally in the DEI office.
During my first four years in the Department, I did a bit of everything (I won’t go into detail as there were many tasks carried out during this period), and, in January 2005, I was given responsibility for the undergraduate (Teaching) service, a role I have held to this day.
- Tell us a little about what you do now at DEI.
As I have already mentioned, my duties are focused on the teaching area, providing support to the coordinators of the 1st and 2nd cycle degree programs and of mobility. In this role, I am responsible for: 1) Ensuring support for administrative processes and semester planning of the 1st and 2nd cycle degree programs coordinated by DEI; 2) Managing the procedures for internal and external credit transfers/equivalences for MEIC and LEIC Alameda; 3) Handling all mobility processes for DEI students (Outgoing) as well as for incoming students; 4) Supporting and following up on all DEI call processes; 5) Creating new course units and submitting, whenever necessary, changes to already existing course units, among many other tasks.
I also provide support to meetings of the CE, CCP, CC12C, and DEI’s CD.
- What do you enjoy most about your daily work at DEI?
There are two things I truly enjoy: 1) The first is the continuous learning that this institution offers me, because I genuinely love to learn; 2) The second is the spirit of mutual support we share among colleagues.
- Who is Lucília outside of Técnico?
Lucília outside IST is the same as always, although with her family and closest friends she is a “lighter” Lucília, because she truly loves being with her family (they are her safe haven) and especially enjoys spending time with her closest friends. She also loves reading (a lot), going to the beach, going to the cinema, and listening to music.
