Inside DEI

Today, we are launching a new feature: “Inside DEI”. Here, we aim to highlight those who, often unnoticed, form one of the fundamental pillars of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

We begin with Cassilda, who holds a special place in everyone’s hearts, a place she has earned over her many years with us.

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at IST.

I am a reserved yet cheerful person, always willing to help those in need.

I am guided by my personal and ethical values, placing great importance on freedom of expression and justice.

I enjoy teamwork, always respecting each individual's contributions and diversity.

I have been at DEI for 25 years, and my responsibilities are many.

Within the Department’s Financial Area:

  • Financial and accounting management of all activities involving DEI and associated cost centers (Undergraduate, Master’s, and Postgraduate academic and professional programs).
  • Procurement of services.
  • Treasury management.
  • Budget management and recording of expenses and revenues for the various units affiliated with DEI.
  • Financial/administrative support for project coordination.

Within the Department’s Human Resources Area:

  • Support for faculty travel/missions.
  • Assistance in the onboarding process for new faculty members.
  • Support for faculty evaluation and monitoring processes.

  • Assistance with court expert processes.
  • Management of the DEI Directory and Mailing Lists.

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work at DEI?

Working at DEI has always been both challenging and rewarding because learning here is continuous and up to date. I was taught to question procedures and to justify them. The proactivity and independence in my work have always been motivating.

Throughout my long professional journey, this has been the place where I have most enjoyed working and collaborating.

Who is Cassilda outside of Técnico?

I have a fulfilling life outside DEI, and my interests are so diverse that the list is quite extensive... Each of these hobbies enriches my life and contributes to my personal growth.

Reading is a source of relaxation and knowledge.

Music is a constant presence in my daily life.

Traveling is a passion that allows me to explore new cultures and landscapes.

Walking and swimming help me maintain a balance between body and mind, ensuring vitality and well-being.
