The welcome session for new students joining the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Campus Alameda (LEIC-A) and the Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Campus Alameda (MEIC-A) took place on September 2 at the FA1 amphitheatre, with simultaneous broadcasts to the FA2 amphitheatre for LEIC-A and the FA3 amphitheatre for MEIC-A.

The LEIC-A presentation session was led by Professor António Leitão, the programme coordinator, and began with an address by Professor Ana Teresa Freitas, President of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) and IST Ambassador for Values. This was followed by a presentation of the programme by its coordinator, who introduced students to the main aspects of the degree, as well as the rights and responsibilities associated with their academic journey.

Two Research Units were subsequently presented: INESC-ID, by Rodrigo Abreu, Head of the Communications and Outreach Office, and the Interactive Technologies Institute, by DEI Professor Nuno Nunes.

The event also featured the participation of Artur Gonçalves, representative of the LEIC-A Class Delegates, the Academic Development Group (NDA), the IST Computer Science Students’ Association (N.E.I.I.S.T.), and Hacker School. They introduced the new students to some of the organisations, activities and opportunities available to them throughout their academic journey.

The MEIC-A presentation was led by its coordinator, DEI Professor Pedro Monteiro.

As with LEIC-A, the presentation included contributions from two Research Units: INESC-ID, presented by Rodrigo Abreu, Head of the Communications and Outreach Office, and the Interactive Technologies Institute, presented by DEI Professor Nuno Nunes. The event also featured the participation of the IST Computer Science Students’ Association (N.E.I.I.S.T.).

The session concluded with the traditional welcome reception, providing an opportunity for the new students and the other members of DEI to socialise.
