DEI Welcomed Its Teaching Assistants

DEI welcomed its Teaching Assistants (TAs) for the 2026/2027 academic year at an onboarding session held on September 1 at the FA1 amphitheatre, in Informatics Building I, at the Alameda Campus.

The opening session was led by Professor Ana Teresa Freitas, President of DEI, who addressed some of the fundamental values associated with the TA role and reflected on the challenges inherent to this position.

Professor Daniel Gonçalves, DEI Vice-President for Teaching, presented the main practical aspects of the role, while Professor David Matos, DEI Board Member for Facilities and Equipment, addressed the TAs' interaction with the Department's physical infrastructure.

Pedagogical and communication training was highlighted in the presentation by Professor Ana Galvão, representative of the Pedagogical Council, who introduced some of the key skills required to perform the role effectively.

The session concluded with a presentation by Professor João Barreto, DEI Board Member for Teaching Service, who used a survey to share insights into the TA experience, complemented by testimonials from the former Teaching Assistants Inês Alves, Luís Gordett and Nuno Trindade.

The event concluded with a light meal offered by the Department to all participants.
