DEI Professors Featured on the Podcast .IA

Arlindo Oliveira and Inês Lynce, professors at DEI, took part in ECO’s Podcast .IA. The conversation covered topics such as the current state of Asian technological development, the contrast with European reality, and the new sustainable AI Laboratory.

During the interview, Arlindo Oliveira also analyzed the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on everyday life and the risks associated with excessive dependence on these technologies, warning about possible phenomena of cognitive atrophy. He also commented on the recent evolution of AI models and the security issues related to new generative systems.

Another highlighted topic was the development of the Portuguese language model “Amália.” Arlindo Oliveira explained the main challenges associated with implementing this project, as well as the possibilities for its application.

Professor Inês Lynce highlighted INESC-ID’s achievement in securing the SAIL (Sustainable Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) project, funded with 27.2 million euros. She explained what the project consists of, emphasizing that it is a “capacity-building” initiative in the field of sustainable AI.
