DEI student recognized with illusionism award

André Melão, a student in the Master’s program in Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering (METI), won the 1st Prize in the Stage category at the “Bairrada Mágica” International Magic Festival, held on the 14th of April.

The illusionist mentions that, within the scope of the master’s program he is attending, he maintains a particular interest in the field of cybersecurity. For André Melão, the two areas have more in common than they initially seem. “Cybersecurity also deals with mysteries, strategies, and revelations,” he says, adding that both magic and engineering require logical thinking, attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills. “The way I think and structure a magic effect has many points in common with how I approach technical challenges.”

This is certainly an example of a healthy coexistence between an academic path and a particular talent.
