Bio: Alysson Bessani (http://www.di.fc.ul.pt/~bessani) is an associate professor with tenure at the Department of Informatics of the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa and the director of the R&D unit LASIGE. He holds a Ph.D. from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil, 2006), was a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University (USA, 2010), and a visiting researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK, 2014). Additionally, he is the co-founder of Vawlt (https://vawlt.io), a start-up focused on secure cloud data storage. His scientific work focuses on topics such as distributed systems, fault tolerance, and computer security, with involvement in 13 international projects and over 120 publications. Recently, he has been primarily working on improving blockchains and their applications.
Title: The LASIGE research unit
Abstract: LASIGE is a research unit in CS&E associated with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, established in 1998. In this talk, I will present a brief history of the unit, its organizational structure, key contributions, and results in the scientific areas in which its researchers are active.
