Title: Assessment Practices in the Age of AI: Examples, Tools, and Safeguards

Abstract: This session is a revised version of the presentation given at the latest Jornadas da Pedagogia da INOV@U.

At a time when Artificial Intelligence is profoundly transforming the way students learn and produce knowledge, this talk offers practical reflections on how to redesign assessment to maintain pedagogical validity, ensure academic integrity, and enhance learning.

Concrete examples of application in real teaching contexts will be presented, including:

  • Use of AI agents as learning support (digital tutors);
  • Formative and summative assessment strategies adapted to the new reality;
  • Tools for creation, correction, and feedback (e.g., Gradescope);
  • Approaches to ensure transparency, authorship, and accountability in the use of AI.

The session will also include a discussion of the main ethical and pedagogical challenges and possible safeguards, including the transition from final product assessment to process assessment and student decision-making.
