The ICPC Southwestern Europe Regional Contest (SWERC) will, for the first time, be organized by members of DEI and will take place at our facilities. 

This is a programming contest for teams of three students, focusing on solving algorithmic problems and coding practice. As the name suggests, it hosts teams from southwestern European countries, Switzerland and Israel.

Teams from IST have been participating in the Maratona Inter-Universitária de Programação (MIUP) since 2001. This event is the qualifier for SWERC, with only the top teams being selected based on their results. This year, DEI is proud to have two of its students among the first team selected for this event. SWERC, in turn, serves as a qualifier for the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), which for over 50 years has been the leading programming competition organized by and for universities worldwide.
