Inside DEI

In this Inside DEI, we will get to know our colleague Lídia Silva a little better.

  • Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at IST.

I started working at ITN in 2002, at the Laboratório de Proteção e Segurança Radiológica. In 2023, ITN was integrated into IST and became the CTN we know today.

In 2018, I decided to change my area of work and moved to the Área de Graduação, where I stayed until 2025.

In June 2025, I joined DEI to work in the Pessoas (People) team.

  • Tell us a little about what you do now at DEI.

I handle processes related to Pessoas: when they join the Department (onboarding, hiring, recruitment), when they are at the beginning of their careers (faculty probationary period), when they wish to become DEI faculty (scouting), when they request a sabbatical leave, and so on.

  • What do you enjoy most about your daily work at DEI?

I like the sense of peace that exists in the Department: we can work calmly and carry out our tasks serenely.

I also like the possibility of working at a slower pace, so that things are not done in a rush and fewer mistakes are made.

I feel that at DEI we have the autonomy to organize and decide how we prefer to work, and that we are encouraged to modernize work processes so that there is agility and quick adaptation to change.

  • Who is Lídia outside of Técnico?

Outside Técnico, I try to live gently, avoiding drama and complications — inside Técnico as well 🙂.

I really enjoy domestic and family life, and the silence of my home. I like preparing family meals and spending time with the written press.

I also enjoy experiencing the city, in its cultural, natural, social, and sporting spaces.
