Ricardo Chaves, Professor at DEI, is one of the key figures behind the development of the DISCRETION project.  

The project has developed a secure communications system for defense, based on cryptographic keys distributed through quantum networks, ensuring that transmitted data can only be read by those with the correct key. DISCRETION aims to strengthen the security of military and governmental communications.  

This is the first project led and coordinated by Portugal under the European Defence Fund, through a consortium of four Member States (Portugal, Spain, Italy and Austria), bringing together academia and industry.
