DEI has welcomed its TAs

The “onboarding” session for the Teaching Assistants (TAs) of DEI for the 2025/2026 academic year took place on the 2nd of September, in Amphitheater FA1 of the Informática I building at the Alameda Campus.
A full room heard the welcoming words of Professor Ana Teresa Freitas, current Head of the Department. She reflected on fundamental values and various aspects of the TA role, highlighting its dual nature (simultaneously being a student and a teacher) and the challenges that come with it.
Professor Daniel Gonçalves, Vice-Head for Academic Matters at DEI, explained in detail the practical aspects of the role. Professor David Matos, Board Member for Facilities and Equipment at DEI, spoke about interaction with the existing human and material infrastructures.
The Pedagogical Council was represented by Professor Ana Galvão, who addressed pedagogical and communication training.
Finally, Professor João Barreto, as Board Member for Faculty Service at DEI, reflected on past experiences, including testimonies from former TAs.
The event concluded with a light meal, offered by the department to all participants.
