Professor Joaquim Jorge appointed to the IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitors Program
The professor at the IST Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and researcher at INESC-ID, is now part of a restrictive group of successful leaders in the field of technology, selected by the IEEE Computer Society.
Joaquim Jorge, Técnico professor (DEI) and INESC-ID researcher, was appointed to the IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitors Program (DVP), which brings together top-quality speakers serving IEEE Computer Society professional and student chapters. Currently, professor Joaquim Jorge is the only Portuguese in the DVP.
The DVP was initiated in 1971 and involves experts from all over the world. The selection of professor Joaquim Jorge is, as the IEEE points out, a consequence “of professor Jorge’s outstanding contributions to the profession, the Computer Society, the IEEE and the community in general”.
The Técnico professor shares his pleasure and honour to participate in this program over the next three years: “I am deeply honoured to have been appointed for such a highly-selective program like the DVP, considering the comparatively small number of selected IEEE members”.
The Distinguished Visitors are top-quality speakers serving IEEE Computer Society professional and student chapters. According to the INESC-ID researcher, “the DVP owes its success to the many volunteers and staff members of the Computer Society who generously contribute their time and talent”.
This is not the 1st time that Técnico is being represented in the DVP. Leonel Sousa, Técnico professor (DEEC) and INESC-ID researcher, joined the program from 2018 to 2021.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest professional technical society dedicated to promoting technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of society.
