Teresa Almeida

Bio: Teresa Almeida is an Invited Associate Professor at Tecnico U. Lisbon and a member of the DCentral Lab. She received her PhD from Newcastle University UK where her work explored human-computer interaction (HCI) design approaches in women’s health and wellbeing. Her work is interdisciplinary, design-led and interventional, and it currently centers around human-data interactions and social justice informatics to enquire current practices and tools in the design of technologies for intimate data. She draws from fields such as interaction design and feminist science and technology studies, and operates in dialogue with both craft and technology-based approaches, including making and the aesthetics of materiality and interaction, while supporting and designing with marginalized communities of practice.

She is the founder of Bitness, a platform that aims to empower women and girls by applying research to improve quality of life and social equity through design.
