DEI Professor investigates how managers adopt GenAI

A study by INESC INOV-Lab, co-authored by Miguel Mira da Silva, Professor at DEI, concludes that managers adopt Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT, mainly for pragmatic reasons, aiming to improve professional performance.

Perceived productivity gains are the main motivating factor, while aspects such as ease of use or social influence have a reduced impact.

Adoption is more frequent in large companies and in technology-driven sectors, which may potentially widen competitive inequalities.

The study also suggests that organizations should focus on demonstrating concrete benefits and investing in learning to harness the potential of GenAI.
