Award Ceremony – McKinsey Merit Award in Complex Analysis and Differential Equations

Alexandre Neves, Computer Science and Engineering student, won the McKinsey Merit Award in Complex Analysis and Differential Equations, and Hugo Matias, Electrical and Computer Engineering student, won an honourable mention.

Alexandre Neves, Computer Science and Engineering student, won the 2nd edition of McKinsey Merit Award in Complex Analysis and Differential Equations. Hugo Matias, Electrical and Computer Engineering student, won an honourable mention. The virtual award ceremony took place this Tuesday 6th October.

The ceremony was attended by Ana Rita Catarino, Senior Recruiter at McKinsey&Company, engineer António Mósca, Técnico alumnus and Engagement Manager at McKinsey&Company, professor Rogério Colaço, President of Técnico, professor Pedro Amaral, IST Vice-president for Corporate Relations and Operations, professor Miguel Abreu, Head of the Department of Mathematics (DM), professor Luís Barreira, responsible for Complex Analysis and Differential Equations curricular unit, and other professors who teach this curricular unit.

“Many of our senior consultants are Técnico alumni, and a lot of our consultants graduated here. We value Técnico very much”, said António Mósca. “This curricular unit cuts across the various courses, which allows us to contact with many students; and, in addition, we appreciate and want to highlight the importance of these analytical and conceptual skills of Técnico students”.

Alexandre Neves thanked professor Cristina Câmara for her support during the classes and stressed the importance of these awards. “Receiving this award is something that goes beyond good grades, I feel that finally someone is recognizing my work and my skills as a student”. “Winning this award has increased my self-confidence and will make me try even harder to have a better performance throughout the course so that more companies will notice my value”, said Alexandre Neves.

Hugo Matias thanked professor Maria João Borges and highlighted the importance of this recognition, which will make him “look for continuous improvement”.

“This award is very important, and I am very happy that it is awarded within the scope of a very important curricular unit”, said professor Rogério Colaço. “This moment is very important for these students, because it recognises their work at the beginning of their academic journey, which further motivates them to achieve good results”, he added.

The McKinsey Merit Award in Complex Analysis and Differential Equations, which amounts to €1,290, also includes a €860 donation to DM for the improvement of teaching and learning conditions.
