DEI professor awarded honorable mention in Prémio Arquivo.pt 2025

Miguel Matos, a professor at DEI, together with Bruno Cotrim, a student from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL), and Bernardo Ferreira, a professor at FCUL, was awarded an honorable mention in the Prémio Arquivo.pt 2025.

The Prémio Arquivo.pt aims to annually reward innovative projects based on the historical information preserved by Arquivo.pt.

The honorable mention recognized Archive Chain, which, in the words of its authors, “is a blockchain that aims to democratize the mission of archiving the Portuguese web. In Archive Chain, all citizens are invited to store pages from Arquivo.pt, and those who store the most pages receive greater rewards in the form of cryptocurrency. At the same time, the pages saved by participants are used as ‘fuel’ for its internal operations, enabling the sustainable implementation of smart contracts and avoiding the massive energy consumption of other blockchains like Bitcoin.”

The award ceremony will take place during the closing session of the Encontro Ciência conference, at the NOVA SBE campus in Carcavelos, on the 11th of July, starting at 5:00 p.m.
