JOSÉ MONTEIRO

José Monteiro received an Engineering and an MSc degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 1989 and 1992 respectively, and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1996 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He obtained his Habillitation degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2012 from IST.

He joined IST in 1997 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC). He was one of the founding members of the Departament of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) in 1998, where he is Full Professor, having served as Head of the Department in the years 2019-2020.

He is a senior researcher of INESC-ID in Lisbon, of which he was director for 8 years. He has published over 150 research papers, and has served on numerous steering and technical program committees. He received Best Paper Awards from the IEEE Transactions on VLSI, and from three conferences. His main interests are in the areas of high-performance computing, computer architecture, parallel algorithms and electronic design automation.

He is author of the pedagogical book "Arquitetura de Computadores: dos Sistemas Digitais aos Microprocessadores" published by IST, later translated to English and published by World Scientific.
