Title: PT Smart Retail: Portugal as a reference for the new generation of autonomous and intelligent retail
Abstract: Aligned with the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR), the PT Smart Retail project aims at the development, demonstration, and industrialization of technologies supporting a new generation of retail, incorporating 100% national technology, some of which are already fully operational in stores like Continente Labs, in Arco do Cego, near IST. Led by the Portuguese startup Sensei, this project is developed by a consortium of 16 companies and 6 academic entities, including IST, and aims at developing advanced process dematerialization solutions applied to the sector to provide a seamless and ultra-convenient experience to its users. In this lecture, we will start with a general presentation of the project followed by a deeper discussion of IST's contribution within this agenda, notably in exposing challenges for the security of these systems and users' privacy, and in presenting a research roadmap for the development of innovative solutions. We will see how some of these challenges and solutions are also relevant in other contexts and conclude with a summary of the main results obtained so far, also touching on research topics yet to be explored in the future.
