On the last Friday, September 8th, the new students of the Licenciatura em Engenharia Informática e de Computadores - Alameda (LEIC-A) 2023/2024 were welcomed in a ceremony that was held in the Salão Nobre of IST led by Professor Nuno Mamede, the Coordinator of LEIC-A.

After an initial introduction, which covered general aspects of the program, Professor Daniel Gonçalves provided a brief overview of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI). This was followed by a speech from the President of the IST Students' Association, Bernardo Santos.

Some of the initial courses that the students will face in their first contact with the program were presented by their respective Senior Lecturers : Differential and Integral Calculus I (Professor Catarina Carvalho, from the Department of Mathematics); Foundations of Programming (Professor Arlindo Oliveira); and Introduction to Information Systems and Computer Engineering (Professor Nuno Mamede).

Subsequently, a more personal academic experience was shared with the new students by the Delegates of the 1st and 2nd year of LEIC-A (Francisca Almeida and Miguel Fernandes, respectively) and by the representative of the Núcleo Estudantil de Informática do Instituto Superior Técnico (NEIIST), Mafalda Ribeiro.

Finally, the Núcleo de Desenvolvimento Académico (NDA) was introduced by Rita Wahl.

Outside the Salão Nobre, the new students had the opportunity to meet their tutors and enjoy a snack provided by DEI.
