President of DEI celebrates International Girls in ICT Day with an article in Público

Ana Teresa Freitas, President of DEI, published an opinion piece today, the 24th of April, in the newspaper Público to mark International Girls in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Day.
The author begins by pointing out that, although women are often less visible, ICT is full of examples of inspiring women. To name just a few: Grace Hopper, Katherine Johnson, Ida Rhodes, and Frances Allen. Later in the article, the issue of underrepresentation in the sector is addressed, along with the misguided path of “correction” that attempted to promote masculine behaviors among women. It ends by emphasizing that “talent has no gender, and the technology of the future needs all brilliant minds. It is up to all of us to fix the system so that this talent is not wasted, but rather nurtured.”
